YCL coming back, but with a different purpose
Kathmandu, April 1: UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has instructed the Young Communist League (YCL) to focus its activities on concluding the peace and constitution drafting processes by May 27.
“The Chairman has instructed us to do programs that make sure that the peace and statute writing process is concluded within the deadline,” YCL valley in-charge Chandra Bahadur Thapa informed journalists after the party chairman’s orientation at the party headquarters in Paris Danda on Sunday.
Thapa said that the YCL will conduct constructive programs such as workshops and rallies to make the people aware of the significance of the conclusion of historic tasks of institutionalization of peace and promulgation of new constitution.
“We will struggle against anyone who stands against peace and constitution,” answered Thapa when asked if the party’s youth wing would be mobilized even against the dissenting faction of the party.
YCL leaders close to the dissenting faction were absent in the orientation that was a part of the Central Committee meeting of the YCL.
“We will activate all the structures of our organization,” Thapa, who is also a lawmaker, pledged. He clarified the YCL activities were not meant to counter any pro-peace and constitution programs of any other organizations or parties.
Following criticism of its activities from various quarters, the YCL has been inactive for more than a year.
