Woman killed in Bengal tiger attack in western Nepal

KATHMANDU: A Bengal tiger attacked and killed a woman in Basgadhi municipality-2 in Bardiya district on Wednesday. The woman identified as local resident Ganga Salami, 40, was collecting fodder in local Bhagawati community forest when the man-eater devoured her, said Chief District Officer Ram Bahadur Kurumbang.
Salami, who sustained severe hand and throat injuries died on the way to Nepalgunj Medical College hospital, said Ana Nath Baral, chief conservation officer at the Bardiya National Park (BNP).
Five persons were killed in tiger attacks in the area in the past seven months, according to the BNP. Local people are a terrified lot due to tiger attacks, while the BNP has urged caution and safety measures. Teams of technicians and Nepal Army alongside tamed elephants would be deployed to control tiger menace, said Baral.
