West crippled under 19-day long band

NEPALGUNJ: The continuous shut down, general strike and transport halt enforced by different political parties, professional organizations and struggle committees has crippled life in the region since the last ten days.

The five-day general strike enforced in the 22 districts of the west Tarai by the Tharu Joint Struggle Committee and the Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities since Monday has further aggravated the situation.

Organisations like the Undivided Mid and Far West Regions Struggle Committee, the Madhes-centric parties, the Samyukta Morcha and other groups had organised general strike until Monday, paralyzing normal life in the region.

The general strike has led to a shortage of essential goods in the market and the daily wage –earners, students and entrepreneurs have been hit the hardest by it.

The continuous general strike is also taking its toll on the industry and business sector here, causing a loss of more than Rs. 10 million daily. People are facing difficulty due to the transport closure and the supply of essentials has been badly affected due to this. RSS
