Victorious team returns home

KATHMANDU: The Nepali national cricket team returned home this evening.  A large number of cricket fans as well as sports officials including Minister for youth and sports Jagat Bahadur Sunuwar Biswakarma were present at the Tribhuvan International Airport to welcome the team that created history by winning an ODI status for the country.
Nepal made it to the qualifying tournament for the 2018 World Cup held in Zimbabwe and then secured an ODI berth for the next four years. Nepal defeated Papu New Guinea by 6 wickets in the playoff match to win the elusive status. However, Nepal finished eighth among the ten teams who competed for a spot in the World Cup.
On the occasion, Nepali cricket team captain Paras Khadka said it was a joint effort of all those involved in winning an ODI status for the country, while announcing that the dream now is a World Cup berth.
Nepali cricket fans who had gathered in significant numbers in the airport premises chanted slogans praising the team, calling for immediate resolution of the CAN dispute, quick completion of the Mulpani Cricket Stadium and increasing entitlements to the Nepali cricketers. RSS
