VDC Secretaries call off their strike
KATHMANDU: The agitating secretaries of Village Development Committee have withdrawn their strike after the government assured them to fulfill their demands.
The agitating VDC secretaries and employees withdrew their protest programmes on Thursday after the Ministry of Local Development assured to take special initiatives for holding local body elections .
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Federal Affairs and Local Development Narayan Kaji Shrestha assured the agitating VDC secretaries that he would put forth the proposal on local body elections during the meeting of major four political parties and special taskforce of parties.
Chairman of VDC Employees’ Association, Shree Ram Acharya, informed that they agitation was lifted after the ministry assured to address the major demand. Acharya further informed that, the Ministry itself will forge political consensus and put forward a special proposal.
Likewise, an agreement was forged to form a five-member panel headed by the joint secretary at the ministry was also formed to conduct study on the allowance and benefits of the VDC employees. The committee will submit its report within a month.
The VDC secretaries and employees had begun their agitation from Wednesday to press for local body elections and benefits of employees.
Normal operations at VDCs across the country came to a grinding halt for the second consecutive day on Thursday.
