UN wants to see early elections in Nepal: Feltman
KATHMANDU: Unites Nations Under-Secretary General for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feltman, who arrived in Kathmandu Tuesday evening, has said that the UN wants to see elections being held in Nepal at the earliest.
“The election process in Nepal needs to be credible and inclusive, and it should also reflect the political ambitions of the Nepali people,” said the UN envoy, who called on Interim Election Council chief Khil Raj Regmi at his office in Singha Durbar.
Feltman, who is on a three-day tour to Nepal, is to meet top leaders of the political parties, head of the interim electoral government, senior government officials and representatives of different sections of the society.
“I found that Chairman Regmi is committed holding elections at the earliest. The UN will continue its support to the electoral process in Nepal,” added the UN Under-secretary.
