Two involved in looting arrested from Kathmandu
KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu police today shot at two persons charged with looting and abduction threats before arresting them from Swayambhu in Kathmandu. A team from the Metropolitan Crime Division acting on a tip off held Milan Tamang and Amrit Tamang on the same charge at 12:10 from a café near Bijesheori housing, said Senior Superintendent of Police Sahakul Thapa.
One of the arrestees, Milan, who has sustained bullet injuries below the knee in the firing, is receiving treatment at the National Trauma Centre.
The arrestees threatened Gobinda Bahadur Khadka, chair of Likhu Tamakoshi rural municipality in Ramechhap district to provide Rs 20 million to them or they would abduct his daughter, said Thapa.
They are also found to have involved in many looting, extortions and criminal activities, he added.
It has been found during investigations that they extorted Rs 2 million from Likhu hydropower project, and Rs 2 million from various contractors. Further investigations are ongoing, said Thapa.
