Trump administration is preparing to cancel TPS for 9,000 Nepali in USA

Sisriksha Dhakal, LOS ANGELES: The Trump administration is almost ready to cancel the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) status for around 9,000 Nepali immigrants, according to media report.

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen will give the grace period to immigrants until June 24, 2019, to leave the U.S., media report says.

TPS allows foreigners to stay in the U.S. to only those country which are facing crises such as war and natural disaster.

The Obama administration granted TPS to Nepali nationals in the United States after earthquake that killed nearly 9,000 people three years ago in the country.

But unless President Trump takes action, those visas expire on June 24 2018.

President Trump will end TPS for Nepal, as he has done recently for Haiti, Honduras and El Salvador but Trump administration is still on the process of decision.
