The coronavirus or COVID-19 pandemic, that started from Wuhan in China in December 2019, has infected more than 1.5 million people globally, killing at least 88,500 people, as of 2:38 GMT, April 9, 2020.
Until this date, 435,128 people have been infected alone in the U.S., while the deaths have been recorded at 14,795. The number of infection in the U.S. is the highest in the world while the deaths are second only to Italy (17,669).
New York State has the largest number of infection (151,171) and deaths (6,268) in the U.S. followed by New Jersey (47,437 & 1,504), Michigan (20,346 & 959) and California (19,031 & 505), respectively.
More than 80 percent of the U.S. is in a lockdown allowing only the essential services including hospitals, pharmacies, groceries and some public transit systems.
As for Nepal, a lockdown is going on for the past several weeks, as around half-a-dozen people have tested positive for the coronavirus.
There are reports of Nepalese either affected or infected with the coronavirus disease, globally. In the U.S. alone, more than 500 Nepalese were reported to have infected with the coronavirus.
“It’s really tough to control coronavirus spread in a crowded city like New York, where 80-90 people live in a single apartment building,” said Sanjay Thapa, a social worker based in New York.
