Task force fails to finalize modalities of CJ led government; Meeting of top leaders of four parties postponed
KATHMANDU: The leaders of four major political parties failed to forge consensus on Chief Justice led election government. The leaders of four political parties are set to formalize the decision for CJ led government but they failed to do so after the four party task force failed to find consensus on the modalities of the new government.
The four major parties formed a task force to finalize the issues like separation of power and check and balance and how to fill vacant constitutional bodies among others for CJ led government.
The task force could not reach into consensus on the modalities of the CJ led government as the political parties failed to find consensus on what if the CJ led government failed to conduct election on the stipulated time. A leader of the task force informed that UCPN-Maoist leaders stated that the incumbent government should be revived if the CJ led government failed to hold the elections within three months while the opposition parties opposed the demand.
Top leaders of major political parties, who are waiting in President’s Office Shitwal Niwas to formalize the deal, returned after postponing the meeting of the top leaders as the task-force could not reach into consensus. The meeting of the top leaders has been postponed till 10 a.m. tomorrow. After the task force presents its draft, the leaders will hold their meeting tomorrow.
Emerging from Shitwal Niwas, Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala and Vice-President Ram Chandra Poudel informed that the meeting of the top leaders postponed till tomorrow as the task force needs more time to finalize the issue. Vice chairperson of CPN-UML Bam Dev Gautam said that the political parties including CPN-UML have already agreed over the CJ-led government, and they are working out to address other issues.
The top leaders of major political parties have been mulling on the agenda of forming the election government led by Chief Justice for almost two weeks but they failed to formalize the decision. The opposition parties, who are not positive towards the idea of CJ led government agreed on the point later. Leaders of minor parties have been saying that the political parties agreed on the Maoist’s proposal on the tune of foreigners.
The leaders of four major parties reached into an agreement for forming the election government led by Chief Justice on Saturday and formed a task-force consisting two members of each party to finalize the issues and modalities for the CJ led government. Failure at the part of political parties to take some important decisions on time wasted the four year long tenure of the Constituent Assembly. The political parties, which remain adamant to their stance, have been blaming to each other for sorry state of the country and ongoing political deadlock.
Earlier in the evening, Prime Minister Dr. Bhattarai had held the Cabinet meeting at his official residence in Baluwatar, before heading to the Office of the President. According to an understanding made yesterday, President Dr. Yadav is scheduled to meet the leaders of fringe parties that represented in the dissolved Constituent Assembly tomorrow after the major parties finalize the deal.
