Sushil promises to secure indigenous nationalities

KATHMANDU: Nepal Federation of Indigenous and Nationalities (NEFIN) has submitted a seven-point memorandum to Nepali Congress (NC) President Sushil Koirala demanding to ensure rights of indigenous community in the new constitution.

Responding to the NEFIN’s representatives, the NC President said that discussions at political leadership are underway to address the concerns of different groups in most of the issues raised by the indigenous groups.

The NC President also pledged to take maximum initiative to incorporate the demands from his side.

The NEFIN has demanded identity based federalism along with timely promulgation of the new constitution by ensuring social and economic development of marginalized and minorities groups.

President of NEFIN Raj Kumar Lekhi said the state should bring the indigenous communities in the country’s mainstream by protecting their rights. RSS
