Staff salary squeezed to feed inmates

NUWAKOT: As the government has not sent budget for three months to purchase ration and provide daily allowances to the inmates in the District Jail here, the salaries of other employees have been cut down.
Jailer Khagendra Ghimire said there was no option but to cut down some amount from the employees’ salaries to feed the inmates with daily allowance.

Although the Prison Department was moved repeatedly about this, the Finance Ministry has not provided budget to the Home Ministry till date, said the District Jail.

There are a total of 44 prisoners in the District Jail.

Rs 150,000 has been provided to the prisoners as their daily allowances for two months of Baisakh and Jestha.
Even the traders have warned of providing no goods on credit, Jailer Ghimire added. RSS
