Snowfall on hills around Kathmandu Valley; weather to improve from Sunday
KATHMANDU: The hills surrounding the Kathmandu Valley have witnessed snowfall following the incessant rainfall.
Rainfall caused by the westerly winds is continuous for three days in most parts of the country including the Kathmandu Valley. Nagarkot, Jarsingpauwa, Shivapuri, Tarebhir, Chandragiri, Champadevi, Phulchowki hills were covered with snow last night.
As per the updates by the Meteorological Forecasting Division, almost all places in the country saw the rainfall.
Kathmandu had 21.5 mm rainfall while Bhairahawa had the maximum 59 mm, Simara 47 mm, Pokhara 35 mm, Dang 16 mm, Birendranagar 13 mm, Jumla 11 mm, Dadeldhura 6 mm, Biratnagar 5 mm, and Dhankuta 4 mm.
The weather in the Kathmandu Valley became clear after the rainfall stopped at 9 am today. Some parts within the valley are sunny, while some are still cloudy. The weather change coupled with rain has brought further cold.
The westerly wind is weakening and the weather improves on Sunday, said meteorologist Shanti Kandel, adding, “Currently, the weather is becoming normal in the west and central Tarai as well, while the eastern Tarai may see light rain in the evening.”
The mountainous areas would see snowfall for some days.
