Snow covered trail obstructs tourist from reaching Mt. Makalu

SANKHUASABHA: Tourists going for climbing and observing the world’s fifth tallest mountain, Mt. Makalu, here are facing problems due to the bad condition of the route leading to this massif.
The tourists have to cut short their journey as the route leading to the base camp of the mountain is covered by snow. As the route to the base camp, the sixth base camp, the seventh base camp and the eighth base camp passes over snowfield, the mountaineers are left in the lurch when it snows heavily and the track is invisible.
It is said many people who come to see the mountain up-close on their own return midway after losing the track following snowfall while those coming from trekking or mountaineering agencies take trekking guides along with them.

Tshering Bhote, a local trekking guide, said that the trekkers and tourists traveling to the base camp of Mt. Makalu are facing problem due to the lack of road signposts, experienced trekking guides and the bad condition of the trail. RSS
