SK lays claims on reigns of national consensus government
N24, LAHAN: Nepali Congress president Sushil Koirala has said that national unity government should be formed under the leadership of his party for taking the peace process to conclusion and issuing the new constitution within May 27.
Koirala arrived in Siraha today in connection with inaugurating the Village Awareness Campaign his party has started in support of the peace and constitution. He said it was now the turn of the Nepali Congress to lead the government.
“The CPN (UML) and the UCPN (Maoist) have already run their governments; although it was said they would forge national consensus nothing of that sort happened and they could not resolve the political impasse,” he said, adding that now it is the turn of the Nepali Congress to lead the government.
He said the new constitution could be issued on May 27 itself if the UCPN (Maoist) did not play spoilsport, accusing the Maoist party of trying to delay the peace process which is the cause for the delay in constitution writing.
Stating that the Nepali Congress was committed to the federal democratic republic, he said no compromises would be made on this issue. On state restructuring, the Nepali Congress president said it would not be acceptable to his party if the country was federalized on ethnic lines. He also said that the concept of entire Madhes as a single province was not practical.
NC president Koirala said although the Nepali Congress has proposed creation of maximum six provinces on the north-south alignment bordering both China to the north and India to the south, some changes could be made in this proposal.
Koirala also observed the Krishna Prasad Koirala Memorial Park and the Salhesh Temple at Madar in the district this morning. RSS
