Sitaula resigns from government; Congress intensifies internal discussion

KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula has tendered his resignation from the government following the recent row over the extension of the Constituent Assembly.

Sitaula, who is also Nepali Congress’s General Secretary, submitted his resignation to party president Sushil Koirala on Thursday morning confirmed Koirala’s personal secretariat.

His resignation come at a time when most of the Central Working Committee (CWC) leaders of of the party have called on the government to withdraw party’s support to the government.

Though the meeting is yet to conclude, Sitaula tendered his resignation formally to the party president. The CWC meeting slated to continue later today will take final decision on the issue.

Meanwhile party president Koirala has escalated efforts to resolve differences with the Deuba led faction of the party. He has formed a negotiation team comprising of Sitaula, Arjun Narshingh KC, and Chandra Bhandrai to hold formal and informal talks with the dissenting faction, that has boycotted the ongoing CWC committee.
