Sister organizations of ruling party to unite soon
KATHMANDU: The student wings and youth associations of the then UML and Maoist Centre parties are likely to unite very soon, as almost all issues except the name and leadership have been resolved.
Chairman of Young Communist League (YCL) and member of unification taskforce Ram Prasad Sapkota ‘Deepshikha’ shared that all issues were resolved except the name and leadership of the new organization to be formed after the merger of Youth Association Nepal and YCL.
“We are effortful to forge a consensus on the name and leadership of the organization,” he said adding that consensus would be sought from the party leadership if the taskforce failed to come to a meeting point. Both the organizations have staked their claim for the leadership.
According to him, Youth Communist League Nepal, Socialist Communist Youth Nepal, Nepal Youth Federation or Nepal Socialist Youth Association are some of the proposed names of the new organization.
Sapkota said that the taskforce is scheduled to submit a report on Friday proposing the unification on August 21, nearly three months after the mother parties’ unification.
The new organization shall have a 199-member central committee including coordinator, assistant coordinator and nine-member standing committee and one-third of the central committee in the secretariat.
Likewise, unification of the students’ wing has also reached the final stage. The ANNFSU and ANNISU (Revolutionary) leaders are working to sort out the draft of the statute, organizational integration and political academic political course. The two organizations have also yet to forge consensus regarding leadership and name.
ANNISU (Revolutionary) Vice Chairman Surendra Basnet said that both the sides have not budged from their stance on the leadership and name.
