Sherman expresses concern on delays made to form TJMS
KATHMANDU: Visiting U.S. Under Secretary for Political Affairs Wendy R. Sherman on Wednesday held deliberations with Maoist Chairman Prachanda and Chief of Army Staff Chattra Man Singh Gurung in the capital.
During her meeting with Prachanda, Wendy expressed her interest in the latest progress made by Nepal in peace process, army integration and constitution writing process informed Krishna Bahadur Mahara, who looks the party’s foreign affairs cell.
In response Prachanda assured Wendy that the army integration would be concluded soon claiming that “parties have reached consensus on outstanding issues seen in the process”.
Wendy said that the relationship between America and Nepalese Maoist would gain new heights after the successful conclusion of the army integration informed Mahara.
In the meeting, Prachanda expressed discontent with Sherman for not removing the Maoists from the terrorist list even though they have formed two governments after entering the peace process.
While assuring that the America would remove the Maoists from the terrorist list after the conclusion of the peace process, Wendy expressed concerns over the delay made in the formation of Transitional Justice Mechanisms.
Later on Wendy also conferred with Gurung at his office and lauded the role played by the NA in concluding the peace process.
Along with that she also appreciated the role played by NA in organizing the ongoing Regional Seminar on Disaster Response and Humanitarian Assistance Operations and expressed hope that the institution will continue its contribution to world peace said a press release issued by the NA.
