Security forces diffuse bombs in Butwal, Biratnagar and Banke

KATHMANDU: Few days after Home Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachhedar has claimed that there has been significant improvement in the security situation of the country during his tenure, a little known community outfit has planted bombs in three major cities of the country on Tuesday.

Security personnel have defused bombs planted by a little known communist outfit ‘CPN Maoist (Revolutionary)’ in Butwal, Biratnagar and Banke districts on Tuesday.

A bomb wrapped in a plastic bag was found at Pushpa Lal Park in Butwan Municipality-8 at around 7 am, causing terror in the area for few hours. A bomb disposal team from the Nepal Army’s Bhawani Bax Battalion defused the improvised explosive device (IED) three hours later.

Police said they found leaflets of CPN-Maoist (Revolutionary) from the scene, claiming responsibility for the bomb scare. Police however said they are yet to independently verify the group’s involvement and the motives.

Meanwhile, the army destroyed an IED allegedly planted by the same group Biratnagar-Jogbani road section in Morang this morning. Likewise, a pressure cooker bomb was defused by the army Rangeela Chowk in Bankatuwa VDC in Banke district. According to local police, leaflets of the CPN-Maoist (Revolutionary) were found there, too.

This is the first incident of threat following the decision of the four major political parties to go for Chief Justice led government for holding the new election of the constituent assembly.
