SC refuses to release Chaudhary from jail
KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has refused to release suspended lawmaker Ramesh Chaudhary from jail. Chaudhary remains in custody on the charge of his involvement in the Tikapur massacre.
A joint bench of justices—Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada and Purushottam Bhandari, on Monday refused to release Chaudhary from jail. The SC seconded the decision of District Court, Kailali and High-Court, Dipayal.
Chaudhary had filed a case at High-Court, Diapayal, against the verdict of District Court, Kailali, made on February 26, 2018. Similarly, Chaudhary knocked the door of the SC on June 19, 2018 against the decision of High-Court made on April 5, 2018.
Chaudhary is one of the main accused of Tikapur incident that occurred on August 24, 2015, where eight persons including a child were murdered. However, he absconded after the incident but won the election to the House of Representatives from Kailali-1 representing the Rastriya Janata Party. He also took the oath of office and secrecy from Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara on January 3.
