Rato Machhindranath ascended on chariot
LALITPUR: The Rato Machhindranath, the God of rain and good harvest, has been ascended on the chariot.
Main priest at the Machhindranath Temple took the God on the chariot on the auspicious hour this evening.
Although the god is placed on the chariot, the pulling of the chariot begins on Thursday. Astrologer Daibagya Kirtimardan Joshi said the Rato Macchindranath jatra is observed in memory of day the God Macchindranath was brought in by Bhaktapur’s King Narendra Dev, Kathmandu’s guru Bandu Datt Bajracharya and Lalitpur’s farmer Lalit Rathchakr.
The chariot of the Machhindranath is pulled even by the people from Bhaktapur and Kathmandu. However, it is pulled from Lalitpur’s Sundhara to Lagankhel by the Lalitpur people only. They pull the chariot in the name of farmer Lalit.
