Quality control preparing to sue Salt Trading Corp

KATHMANDU: The West Region Food and Quality Control Office, Rupandehi is preparing to file a lawsuit against the Salt Trading Corporation after sand was found mixed with the salt supplied by the corporation.

The office had started investigations following recent reports in the media that sand was found in the salt packets supplied by the corporation. It collected samples and on testing found that the salt contained sand.

In its report made public on Monday, the food laboratory of the West Region Food and Quality Control Office confirmed that presence of sand in the samples taken for tests, said Chief of the Office, Kishor Khatri.

Khatri said the Chief District Officer has also been informed of this and that his office would now file a case against the Salt Trading Corporation, Bhairahawa under the Food Act.

Of late, it became public that the salt packets supplied and sold in Bhairahawa, Butwal and Bardaghat by the Salt Trading Corporation Limited contained sand. RSS
