Prez endorses ordinance to fill vacant constitutional bodies

KATHMANDU: President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav has authenticated the Constitutional Council regulations (first amendment) Ordinance 2069 as per the Article 88 (1) of Interim Constitution, the Office of the President said in a statement on Sunday.

Now, this has paved the way to make appointments in the vacant constitutional bodies without parliamentary hearing.

Key positions in the constitutional bodies including Election Commission, Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) are vacant for a year or so.

Since the Constituent Assembly (CA) which doubled as Legislature-Parliament was dissolved in May 27 last year, there was constitution hurdle to make the appointments.

The meeting of Cabinet led by Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi-led Interim Election Council on Friday forwarded the ordinance to the President as per the March 13 agreement struck by the major four forces.
