President Moon calls for continued support for Korea peace process
KATHMANDU: South Korean President Moon Jae-in, while greeting the heads of 32 news agencies from 28 countries including National News Agency (RSS) of Nepal, today called for continued support from OANA-member news agencies for the Korea peace process.
RSS, the only state-owned news agency of Nepal, is also participating in the general assembly of Organization of Asia Pacific News Agencies (OANA) as its member news agency and is represented by its Chairperson Harihar Adhikari ‘Shyamal’.
The general assembly, a triennial event, of OANA has begun at Cheong Wa Dae in Seoul of South Korean began from today itself.
The South Korean President while greeting the representatives asserted,” Peace on the Korean Peninsula is a starting point for achieving a peace community of co-prosperity.”
Similarly, OANA President Aslan Aslanov shared that this week will witness a session themed “New Challenges for Journalism: Technological Innovations and Issues of Trust.” He expressed his pleasure that the discussion on the issue was going to be held in a country where Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has been a huge driving force.
The general assembly on Friday is scheduled to issue the “2019 Seoul Declaration” which seeks OANA’s member news agencies’ active support for the denuclearization and permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula.
Established in 1961 on the initiative of UNESCO to promote regional news exchanges, OANA has a total of 43 news agencies from 35 Asia-Pacific countries as its members.
