President Bhandari performs puja in Nawadurga temple on Kojagrat Purnima
KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari performed puja at the Nawadurga Temple in Bhaktapur today, marking the Kojagrat Purnima, the last day of Dashain festival.
On the occasion, President Bhandari was offered tika, jamara, offerings, garlands and five-colored thread by the Chief Priest at the Temple, Krishna Kumar Banmala.
Bhandari, who reached the temple at afternoon, after seeing off her Chinese Counterpart Xi Jinping, received tika, jamara and prasad from the chief priest, said the President’s Office.
The Head of the State offered dakshina to the chief priest and other temple officials who performed traditional dances.
Unlike last when the President would return after receiving the Prasad, Bhandari this year observed the Nawadurga dances performed following the puja in the Temple.
President Bhandari also observed the idols of nine forms of Goddess Durga.
On the occasion, chief of District Coordination Committee Nawaraj Gelal handed over cheque of Rs 1.5 million and Ram Prasad Prajapati, President of the Industry and Commerce Association, Rs 50,000, for setting up a revolving fund for the temple to observe festivals.
On the occasion, chief priest of Taleju Temple Narendra Prasad Joshi urged President Bhandari to help with to the Temple through government which, according to Joshi, was reeling under financial constraints.
According to him, many traditional festivals of the Temple could not be performed in lack of adequate fund.
President Bhandari was received at the Nawadurga Temple by parliamentarian Mahesh Basnet, Province Assembly members Sashijung Thapa and Saraswati Bati.
Chief District Officer Narayan Bhatta as well as the high-ranking officials of the concerned government agencies were present on the occasion.
