President approves Ordinance on Organized Crime

Kathmandu: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has Friday endorsed an Ordinance on Organized Crime forwarded by the government on Friday.

According to a press release issued by the Office of the President, President has approved the ordinance as per the Article 88 (1) of the Interim Constitution taking into account national interest and commitments expressed by Nepal towards international community.

President put the seal a few days after the Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun met the President and urged him to approve the ordinance before February 18, the day the next FATF Plenary and Working Group Meeting is set to begin in Paris.

Shital Niwas had been shelving almost ordinances presented by the Bhattarai government after the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly. It had said it will pass ordinances, which are backed by all political forces. There has been tussle between the government and the head of the state after the President put on hold some of the Ordinances forwarded by the government. The government has been pressing the President to pass Ordinances presented by the government while the opposition parties have been requesting the President not to do so.
