Power struggle rages in the rebel outfit unchanged
N24 Correspondent, KATHMANDU: The crisis in the UCPN-Maoist is snowballing into a disaster with the hard-line faction led by Mohan Baidya refusing to attend the central committee meeting.
He has dubbed the same as ‘meaningless’ exercise as many issues passed earlier on remaining unimplemented.
Much of it came to the fore on Wednesday when Baidya told Prachanda to implement the decisions reached ealier if he was keen to have everyone attending the meetings of the party.
The establishment faction had on Tuesday had decided to hold the meeting after consultation with the Baidya faction to patch up differences.
“They are saying they will sort out issues through meetings. But there is no meaning left in the meeting,” Baidya said.
Prachanda had appealed Baidya to cooperate with the government to conclude the peace and constitution-writing processes.
However Baidya faction is insisting that Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai should resign from his post as decided by the central committee.
The central committee meeting of January 16 had decided to go for national consensus government but the decision to have the prime minister resign is not enforced.
The row between the faction has boiled to crisis after Baidya faction came up with protest programs.targetted against the government. An informal meeting had entrusted Prachanda to hold dialogue with Baidya to narrow down the differences.
