Police arrests two locals for littering Bagmati River
KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolis has arrested two locals who threw wastage haphazardly in the Bishnumati River. Action was taken by arresting them as they acted against the campaign of the metropolis to minimize pollution in the river, said chief of the Environment Management Division, Rabinman Shrestha.
Some 20 town police personnel had been mobilised from 4:00 pm to 12:00 pm for conservation of the river, said Shrestha.
Under the Bishnumati River Sanitation Programme started on July 25, clean up was done from Ward No. 13 Paropkar Bridge to Ward No. 19 Kankeswori Temple.
Under the campaign, some nine tonnes of garbage was collected and was taken to the Garbage Management Center at Teku, said the metropolis.
Nepal Police, Swoyam Nepal, NGO Nepal and locals undertook the clean up. The programme will run for up to July 31. RSS
