KATHMANDU: The four major political parties UCPN-Maoist, Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and United Madhesi Democratic Front have formed an 8-member high-level political committee under the leadership of chairperson of UCPN-Maoist Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
Saturday’s meeting of the four political parties and chairperson of the Interim Election Council Khil Raj Regmi formed the committee to assist the Interim Election Council for holding the elections of the constituent assembly by the second week of June.
The panel, which will be chaired by the top leaders of the four parties on rotational basis every month, comprises top leaders and one more representative from each party. The main job of the panel will be to advise the interim election government and make recommendations for appointments of the remaining cabinet members and the office-bearers in the Election Commission and other constitutional bodies.
Today’s four-party meeting also decided to hold talks with the agitating smaller parties to convince them to take part in the elections. 22 fringe parties representing the dissolved constituent assembly led by CPN-Maoist launched series of protest programs against CJ led government. CPN-Maoist has also warned of boycotting the constituent assembly election hold by Chief Justice.
