PM holds bilateral consultations with Australian counterpart
BRAZIL (RSS): Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard has pledged to increase development assistance to Nepal in the coming days. After a bilateral meeting held with the Australian Prime Minister on Friday on the sideline of the ongoing United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development at Rio de Janeiro, Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai said the Australian government was positive to enhance the level of cooperation for economic prosperity of Nepal.
“Australia was eager to extend support to Nepal’s endeavour for the hydropower development, tourism promotion and attaining economic prosperity through modernization of agriculture,” Prime Minister Dr. Bhattarai quoted the Australian Prime Minister as saying.
The two leaders touched upon the issues of promoting bilateral interests and mutual cooperation to further enhance the existing friendly relations between the two countries, said Secretary at the Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Leelamani Poudel, who was also present in the meeting.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Dr. Bhattarai briefed his Australian counterpart about the efforts being made to end the country’s transition to peace and constitution-making and expressed the hope that the country would see an outlet to the problems soon through consensus among the key stakeholders.
