PM, Dahal visit flood hit areas, pledge speedy relief
POKHARA: Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai, Deputy Prime Minister Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar, Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and top government officials today held a field visit of Kharapani Bazaar at Sardikhola VDC which was swept away by the flashflood in the Seti river on Saturday.
Chiefs of security bodies were also present on the occasion. Prime Minister Dr Bhattarai returned to Kathmandu after the inspection of the area.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Dr Bhattarai directed the officials to leave no stone unturned to provide rescue and relief to the affected families.
The death toll from the floods in the Seti river triggered by avalanche from the Machhpuchchhre Mountain of the Annapurna Base Camp has so far reached 14. As many as 60 people have gone missing including three Russian tourists- Ivan Mallkho, Ckopo Syge and Polon Chukalla–have gone missing. The flood has swept away two houses and 15 huts.
Police said only three persons among the dead have been identified so far. Those identified are Dilshova Tamang of Sardikhola-1, Gopal Tamrakar of Sardikhola-7 and Archana Shrestha of Bagaletol, Pokhara. RSS
