PM Bhattarai calls SK, JK for Ministerial recommendations

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has expedited efforts to form a cabinet by evening today, the deadline to form an unity government as per the Thursday’s five point agreement.

On Saturday morning, PM Bhattarai called on Congress President Sushil Koirala at the letters residence in the capital and urged him to recommend the names of his party leaders for allocating ministerial portfolios.

Responding to the request, Koirala has promised to recommend the names today after holding consultations with party leaders. As per the understanding reached between lead parties, Congress, UML, Madheshi Front and the Maoist will recommend names of four ministers each and fringe parties will recommend another four ministers for the national unity government.

However owing to internal controversy on the recommendations to be forwarded between the Deuba, Paudel and Sitaula faction, Congress has not been able to send the names.

Along with Koirala, PM Bhattarai had telephoned UML Chief Jhalnath Khanal for sending in the names. Khanal also has assured to send in the names by afternoon today.

Khanal’s promise, given the disapproval of the majority of his Party’s Standing  Committee meeting on Friday to join the Bhattarai government, seems to a political promise than that of actuality.
