Paudel slams government, says CA election just an excuse to remain in power

KATHMANDU: Vice-President of Nepali Congress, Ram Chandra Poudel, has said the government has announced the election only as a pretext to continue in power.

At a talk programme organized by Nepal Students’ Union Central Committee of the Nepal Sanskrit University on the occasion of BP Memorial Day here on Tuesday, Vice-President Poudel said the election the government announced for November 22 was impossible because there was no law to conduct the election.

Consensus was essential to free the country from the present constitutional and political vacuity, he stressed.

Leader Poudel said Nepali politics witnessed tumultuous three decades following the demise of BP Koirala, he said, adding that Nepali Congress has always been adhering to the principles of BP Koirala.

Central member of the party, Gagan Thapa said Nepali politics cannot make a progress if freedom was suppressed.

Press freedom is the essence of democracy, he said and argued that the thoughts of late BP Koirala are still relevant.

Another central member Badri Pande said the political leaders must make the country and people the prime concern of their work.

Student leaders of the party called for holding of the conventions of the sister wings of the party including that of the NSU. RSS
