Paudel reluctant to support Bhattarai for unity government

KATHMANDU: The lead political parties including Madheshi Front discussed the formation of national consensus government on Sunday.

Though a faction within the Congress has agreed to transform the present government into consensus, which includes party President, party Vice President Ram Chandra Paudel is reported to have denied the proposition.

NC General Secretary K P Sitaula and leader Minendra Rijal had taken the lead in negotiating with the Maoists side and had lobbied within the party to form two consensus government: one in Bhattarai’s leadership and another in NC’s leadership to hold general election, claimed a highly placed source in know how about the developments.

The source claimed that the Paudel’s denial stemmed from his supposition that once backed by all parties, PM Bhattarai might not step down even after promulgating the new constitution and thereby trample the thin possibility for him to fulfill his longstanding desire.

Even though NC leaders had tried to convince Paudel that Bhattarai will step down after promulgating the new constitution, by Sunday evening he had denied to believe the suggestions.
