Parties nearing understanding on mixed federal model
KATHMANDU: Major political parties and the Madheshi Front are inching closer on adopting a mixed federal model to restructure the nation. Chances of parties coming together on the mixed identity federal states.
The possibility, as confirmed by sources at Baluwatar was made possible after NEFIN leaders who have earlier been pressing for unitary identity federal states, exhibited flexibility on their stance and agreed for a mixed federal model.
Though the parties are yet to strike a deal on it, they have presently headed for CA hall in New Baneshwor where they are expected to strike an agreement after holding consolations with the CA chairman Subash Nembang.
Congress lawmaker Jeep Chirring Sherpa said that though their demand was a single identity federal set up they are not going to dissolve the CA without promulgating the constitution. So, he claimed, they had agreed for mixed-identity federal states. Following the assurances from the Caucus lawmakers, senior leadership had discussed the possibility and neared understanding on it.
Sources claimed that parties were mulling on making 10 to 14 states by mixing some of the states proposed by the thematic committee on state restructuring of the CA.

KATHMANDU: Talks at PMO are moving in a positive direction and they have been suspended for time being after parties had to engage in internal discussions.
Sources claimed that parties are nearing understanding on 10-state model after Nepali Congress forwarded 13 state model in the morning today.
They have neared understanding to name the federal states as 1, 2, 3 for the time being and given the sole authority of naming and marking the boundary to the federal commission.
Following the possibility parties have busied themselves in internal discussion. Meanwhile, the Maoist standing committee that is underway at Baluwatar has decided to show flexibility on issues related to state restructuring informed sources.
UML Chairman Jhalnath Khanal, who exited the meeting informed that the meeting was moving in a positive direction.
KATHMANDU: Meeting of three lead parties, including Madheshi Front, is underway at the Prime Minister’s office in Baluwatar. Sources in the know how informed that the meeting is centered on the nomenclature, boundaries, and numbers of the federal states. Along with that parties are also in discussion on the authority of the federal commission to be formed, nature of the constitution to be promulgated in the evening today, and alternatives for the CA, after it is dissolved today.
Meanwhile, Nepali Congress has prepared another 13 state model proposal today after holding internal discussions in the wee hours on Sunday morning.
However the basis of these states remaines unknown.
