Opposition says CA election ploy to capture state power
KATHMANDU: The 22 political parties all set to organize joint mass gathering against government’s move to hold Constituent Assembly elections have accused the UCPN-Maoist of announcing election to capture state authority and impose authoritarianism.
Issuing a press release, the 22-parties said the Maoists made the CA a latest victim because they were always on a tactic to capture state authority.
In the press release, they said the date for fresh CA election was made without informing concerned CA members, parties in the parliament, CA Chairman and own party. It has jeopardized peace, democracy, republic, federalism and constitution writing.
At a joint press meet organized at the Nepali Congress headquarters, NC General Secretary Prakash Man Singh read out the press release that it was historic responsibility to unite each other to frustrate the totalitarian and authoritarian decision of the Maoists.
The election announced immediately after the big festivals as Dashain, Tihar and Chhath was just a maneuvre of the Maoists to capture the state authority in the name of election, the release mentioned.
There were a lot of obstructions and challenges to hold CA elections on November 22. If the constitution is not amended, some 2 million youths would be deprived of voting; there was no constitutional provision to hold another CA elections, the parties stated in the joint press release.
“It is our conclusion that announcement of the CA elections without holding discussion with other political parties and despite the formal information by the Election Commission, was not for real election but as Maoists’ first step to capture state authority,” the parties reiterated.
They have called all to be committed to institutionalize federal democratic republic, keeping intact social harmony and tolerance.
Also, they appealed to all to make the joint protest gathering successful on June 8. RSS
