NSU logjams traffic in front of all capital campuses against hike in petroleum prices
KATHMANDU: Nepal Students’ Union (NSU) organized chakkajam (transport halt) at different campuses for an hour this morning to protest government’s decision to hike the price of petroleum products and suppression by police.
The NSU organized the chakkajam in front of all the campuses in the country including Ratna Rajya Laxmi Campus, Shankerdev Campus, Balmiki Campus for an hour from 9:00 am to protest suppression by police on cadres of the NSU at Tribhuvan International Airport on Monday and demanding that farmers should get fertilizers smoothly.
President of the NSU, Ranjit Karna objected to the attempt of government to suppress on the rights of the people of protesting the wrongdoings by using police.
The Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has increased the price of diesel and kerosene oil under the petroleum products by Rs. 4 in each liter, to be effective from June 19. Now the price of diesel and kerosene oil has reached to Rs 93 per liter.
Police had suppressed on cadres of different sister organizations of various political parties while they were protesting the Prime Minister when he was returning home after taking part in the United Nations Convention on Environment and Sustainable Development also known as Rio+20 held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
