NRB Chief tells banks to increase agricultural loans

KATHMANDU: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Governor Yubaraj Khatiwada has directed the banks and financial institutions to increase the volume of credit in the agriculture sector.

Inaugurating a workshop titled ‘Investment in Agriculture- Challenges and Opportunities’ organized by the Independent Business News Pvt. Ltd. on the occasion of the 19th anniversary of Artha Ko Artha here today, Governor Khatiwada urged the BFIs to expand their services to the rural areas.

The NRB Governor also stressed the need of issuing easy credit in the agriculture sector and of extending financial services targeted at the farmers in the rural outback. “It is the need of the day that all the commercial banks collaborated with the financial institutions running micro finance programmes and reached the doorsteps of the farmers,” the Governor said.
President of Nepal Bankers’ Association Ashok Rana said they were for expanding rural-oriented banking services. The programme was presided over by Managing Director of Independent Business News, Hridaya Gautam.
