News Update: Tibetan activist attempting ‘self immolation’ died
Kathmandu: A Tibetan youth, who set himself on fire near the Bouddhanath Stupa yesterday morning, died while undergoing treatment at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH), Maharajgunj, Wednesday night.
According to hospital source the youth identified as Thuundup Dopchen, 20, died due to severe burn injuries. The yough tried ‘self-immolation’ protesting the Chinese Rule in Tibet.
The Tibetan youth attempted to commit ‘self-immolation’ at around 8:45 am on Wednesday morning. However police personnel extinguished the fire and took him to Hospital for treatment.
This is the first case of ‘self-immolation’ attempt by a Tibetan in Kathmandu and comes ahead of their plan for protest rallies in Kathmandu
Security has been tightened in Kathmandu near Tibetan camps keeping in view that more such incidents could place. Nepal has been allowing Tibetans to pass to Dharmasala in India through Nepal.
