Nepal’s democracy under threat: NC Chief Whip Khand
KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) parliamentary party chief whip Bal Krishna Khand said the government’s attention has been deviated from the responsibility of institutionalizing democratic republic.
In his address to public awakening campaign organized by NC Kathmandu Constituency-4 here today, Khand said the introduction of bill in a way to suppress fundamental values of democracy including freedom of the press and human rights has increased threat to democracy.
The awakening drive would reach out to every nooks and corners to make public aware on growing threat to democracy, he said.
Also speaking on the occasion, NC central member and parliamentarian Gagan Kumar Thapa said the time has come to intensify protest from all fronts including parliament and street against the ill-attempt to impose undemocratic practices by reversing democratic republic system.
The draft of bill on media council and human rights was a big blow against democratic system, he asserted.
State Assembly member duo, Narottam Baidya and Radha Ghale, NC Kathmandu President Sabuj Baniya and Kathmandu, Constituency-4 President Raju Shrestha stressed the need to launch strong protest against the making of any unconstitutional laws.
