Nepal’s Chief of Army Staff Thapa leaves for week-long China visit

KATHMANDU: Chief of Army Staff, Purna Chandra Thapa left for China for a week-long visit on Sunday.
According to the Directorate of Public Relations and Information of the Nepal Army, CoAS Thapa heading a seven-member team left for China at the invitation of China’s People’s Liberation Army.
Chief of General Staff, Sharad Kumar Giri, bade farewell to CoAS Thapa at Tribhuvan International Airport. Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Lieutenant Generals, and joint-secretary at the Defence Ministry, among others were also present there.
Before this, a contingent of Nepal Army had offered a guard of honour to CoAS Thapa at Army Headquarters premises. CoAS Thapa will hold meeting with high-level army officials of China as well as visit historical places during his China visit, according to the Directorate.
The Nepal Army has believed that such high-level visit would help further strengthen bilateral relations and mutual cooperation between Nepal and China.
