Nepali, Chinese women to establish ties
KATHMANDU: Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Yu Hong, organized a special greetings exchange programme on the occasion of the 108th International Women’s Day in the capital city Thursday.
Minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare Tham Maya Thapa also joined the event.
In her speech during the programme, Minister Thapa said women’s participation was increasing and encouraging in Nepal due to constitutional provision. But much is left to do in economic and social sectors. Thapa added that challenges as of child marriage, Chhaupadi and other ill practices were still prevailing in many parts of the country.
Likewise, Ambassador of China to Nepal Yu said that the relations between Nepal and China were very old and efforts would be made to establish ties between the women of Nepal and China in the days to come.
Nepali Congress leader Sujata Koirala, Maoist Centre’s Spokesperson Pampha Bhusal, women leaders, lawmakers and media persons were present on the occasion.
