Nepal looses to Palestine in the first match of AFC Cup

KATHMANDU: Palestine defeated Nepal 2-0 in the inaugural match under the that kicked off at local Dasarath Stadium on Thursday.

Hosts Nepal went on the back foot early into the match, conceding the first goal just three minutes into the game.

Fahid Attal of Palestine scored the first goal. He was back to action again extending the lead to take into to 2-0 in the 64th minute.

Nepal missed several opportunities in the match today, played under an almost full-house stadium.

The Nepali team led by captain Sagar Thapa included Kiran Limbu, Rabin Shrestha, Biraj Maharjan, Rohit Chand, Sandip Rai, Nirajan Khadka, Raju Tamang, Anil Gurung, Jumanu Rai and Bharat Khawas.

Meanwhile, in the other match held under the AFC challenge cup at the Armed Police Ground in Halchowk, Turkmenistan defeated Maldives by 3-0.

Nepal, the Maldives, Turkmenistan and Palestine are in Group ‘A’ while Group ‘B’ comprises India, North Korea, the Philippines and Tajikistan.

With the win today, Palestine and Turkmenistan have gathered three points each.

In tomorrow’s game, North Korea plays the Philippines while India will face Tajikistan. RSS
