Nepal defeated in first T20 match
KATHMANDU: Nepal lost to hosts the UAE in the first T20 cricket match held under the Nepal-UAE series in Dubai today.
In the match held at the ICC global cricket academy ground, Nepal lost to the UAE by 21 runs.
Put into bat first, the UAE posted a total of 153 runs at the loss of 6 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Saiman Anwar scored 59 while Mohammad Usman scored 30 and CP Rizwas scored 22 runs for the host team.
For Nepal, Sandip Lamichhane and Basanta Regmi took 2 wickets each.
In reply, Nepal could post only 132 runs after losing 7 wickets in their full quota of 20 overs.
Meanwhile, in the failed run chase, Nepal’s Sandip Jora made a world record by becoming the youngest player to score a half century in debut in T20 cricket. He was 17 years and 103 days when he scored 53 n.o. in 46 balls including a six and 3 fours. Other notable contributors were Sompal Kami (26) and Captain Paras Khadka (25).
With the win, the UAE leads the three-match series by 1-0. The second match will be held on Friday. Prior to this, Nepal had defeated the hosts in the one-day series by 2-1.
