Nepal Day marked in Germany, issues of economic prosperity discussed
COLOGNE: Authorities concerned and experts have held a discussion in Germany on finding ways to achieve economic prosperity following conclusion of election of all three levels in Nepal.
They met at the 29th Annual Nepal Day Conference which started on May 13 in Cologne, Germany where they discussed the current developments in Nepal, and the relations between Germany and Nepal.
With the slogan ‘Way Forward’, the Conference is organised by the German-Nepal Friendship Association in cooperation with the Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum in Cologne and with the support of the Nepal Tourism Board and the Government of Nepal.
On the occasion, Nepal’s ambassador to Germany Ramesh Prasad Khanal said initiations would be taken to develop tourism and attract foreign investment following peace and stability in Nepal.
Nepal’s Honorary Consul General and the Association’s President Ram Pratap Thapa said the Association is working as a link to expand relations between the two countries.
Mayor of the City of Cologne Henriette Reker and German Ambassador to Nepal Rudolf Schaefer wished best for the development of Nepal.
In the conference, senior advocate Parshuram Koirala presented a working paper on amendment to Nepal’s Civil Code, while Prof Dr Situ Shrestha informed the meeting of the country’s health situation, Prof Dr Malakraj Shrestha of health tourism, engineer Bimalraj Gosain of reconstruction following the earthquake of April, 2015 and Dr Chiran Pokharel of wildlife tourism.
Dil Gurung and Santosh Bhattarai from Nepal and residing in Germany insisted on the need of developing Nepal into the world’s beautiful tourist destination while statistics expert Basanta Thapa presented his views about the potentiality of developing Nepal into a smart country.
Prof Beatrice; Non Resident Nepali Association’s former president Mr Jeeba Lamichhane and incumbent vice president Kumar Pant presented their views on the issues of economic development.
On the occasion, German Nepal Layers’ Forum was constituted under the convenorship of Germany’s law expert Prof Dr Aastri Funke .
Nepali folks dances were presented at the event actively participated by German academic and professional experts from various fields and Nepalis residing there. The Association has been celebrating the Nepal Day since the past 29 years on the occasion of its establishment day.
The Association that was started by the late Kretschmar some 45 years with the participation of eight members has now over 1,000 members.
