Nepal Army officers to commute bicycle on each Friday
Chief of Army Staff Gaurav Shumsher Rana including other senior officers of the NA brigades, battalions, and companies inside the ring road in the Kathmandu Valley reached office today on bicycle. Even the Army Chief, who usually went office by an NA vehicle amid tight security, reached office today on a bicycle.
Now onwards, Nepal Army Officers inside Kathmandu Valley would have to commute bicycle or either by walking to go office on each Friday thanks to the new rule introduced by the Nepal Army. As per the directives, NA senior officers could not use office vehicles while coming to duty and returning home on Friday.
According to Army Spokesperson Suresh Sharma the rule is meant for contributing to reducing the environmental problem.
Sharma said the NA has launched a new campaign within the institution with a view to contributing to the environment and it is equally beneficial in view of personal health and financial savings. Besides, it is expected to minimize valleys’ traffic congestion to some extent, he said, adding, “It is also an opportunity to boost up our public relation as we meet many people and our well-wishers on the way.”
NA is hopeful that the campaign spreads a positive message among the people about the NA. High-ranking officers at the NA headquarters including the Maharajgunj, Chhauni, Narayanhiti and Singha Durbar barracks are with the campaign, it is learnt.
