Nembangs appreciates women lawmakers for their fight to rights

KATHMANDU: Chairman of the Constituent Assembly, Subas Nembang appreciated the role of the Caucus, the women lawmakers’ group, regarding ensuring the women’s rights in the new constitution.

Speaking at an interaction on women’s major issues in the new constitution and website inauguration programme organised by the Caucus today, he expressed his commitment to support the Caucus’ campaign as it was not only for the cause of women but also the national campaign.

CA Chairman Nembang said the decision made by political parties of late has raised the confidence for constitution writing, adding the Caucus should work actively to promulgate the constitution in the slated timeframe and play crucial role to unite the political parties for constitution writing process. He said the Caucus should work to write women-friendly constitution that guarantees to end violence against women.

During the programme, coordinator of the Caucus Kalpana Rana said that the timeframe for constitution writing was drawing nearer and the question of the women’s equality has been the matter of political commitment.

Similarly, Chief of the International IDEA Lina Rikikila Tamang said the launching of the website (www.womencaucus.gov.np) would make it easier to learn about the Caucus’ objective, activities and publications.

The conclusions of the interaction have been sent to the government, stakeholders, and the CA. RSS
