NC to secure democratic values in new constitution: SK

KATHMANDU: President of Nepali Congress Sushil Koirala said his party would not make compromises going against democratic norms and values in the new constitution.

Speaking at a function organised by Kathmandu Metropolitan City Ward No. 5 to extend greeting on the occasion of the Nepali New Year 2069 BS, Koirala said, the NC that has arrived in the position through great struggle would not make any compromise going against any democratic norms and values, ideology and principal.

President Koirala said the peace process has taken the positive turn ensuring to forward the constitution writing process, adding NC got the energy and inspirations from Nepali people, NC leaders, and cadres to make its stance for democracy.

Similarly, NC Vice-president Ram Chandra Paudel said the environment for constitution writing process was created when the peace process took positive turn after the handover of the Maoist cantonments and arms to the Nepal Army.

Central member of the NC, Narhari Acharya stressed for federalizing the country on the basis of identity and capability but federalizing the states on the basis of ethnicity was not acceptable to his party. RSS
