NC leader Acharya draws PM Oli’s attention on delaying appointment of Chief Justice, CIAA Chief

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader and former minister Mahesh Acharya has drawn the attention of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli why the posts of the Chief Justice and Chief of the constitutional body were lying vacant for long.
Writing a letter to the PM, leader Acharya said PM Oli himself violated the provision in Article 284 (3) of Constitution, thereby creating severe damage to the judiciary- a significant pillar of democracy.
Although it has been three months there is no Chief Justice in the Supreme Court, and months there is no Chief Commissioner in the Commission of Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), no initiative is taken by the government to his regard. It is sheer violation of constitutional provision, leader Acharya argued.
In the letter, he further underscored that not having Chiefs in the judiciary which plays vital role on checks and balance of power and maintain good governance in the country and in CIAA may invite government’s control and undue influence at any time on these bodies.
