NC Chief Whip accuses the government of trying to curtail press freedom
KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party chief whip Bal Krishna Khand on Friday accused the government of trying to curtail press freedom, mainly to block the news items related to corruption and wrongdoing of the government.
Speaking at the party’s awareness campaign organised by Kathmandu Constituency 10 in Kirtipur, the chief whip of the main opposition said the government was trying to control media as they had been exposing wrongdoings of the government.
He accused Prime Minister KP Oli of being frivolous and not serious about the grave issues.
Khand further said Prime Minister Oli’s statement and words were deleted from the Parliament record for the first time in Nepal’s parliamentary history.
He also accused the government of moving towards autocratic path by controlling various sectors.
Khand said the government disregarded pluralism and had gone against the principle of the multi-party system.
He said the NC was always aware about countering any form of autocracy.
